Advantages and disadvantages of polyethylene PE materials

February 9, 2024

Advantages of polyethylene PE material:

1. Most PE materials have strong corrosion resistance and do not react with acids or bases.

2. Low manufacturing cost of PE materials.

3. Durable, waterproof, and lightweight PE.

4. Easy to be molded into different shapes.

5. It is a good insulator.

6. PE materials can be used to prepare fuel oil and fuel gas, which can reduce crude oil consumption.

Disadvantages of polyethylene PE material:

1. When recycling and reusing waste PE materials, classification is very difficult and economically uneconomical.

2. PE materials are prone to combustion and produce toxic gases during combustion; For example, during the combustion of polystyrene, toluene is produced. A small amount of this substance can cause blindness, vomiting when inhaled, and PVC combustion can also produce toxic gases such as hydrogen chloride. In addition to combustion, high temperature environments can cause PE materials to decompose into toxic components, such as benzene rings.

3. PE material is made from petroleum refined products, and petroleum resources are limited.
