Metal plating processes - terms and definitions

September 23, 2023

Standard tape: refers to an adhesive tape product that complies with ISO2409 and is specially used to test the adhesion of surface coatings. Its adhesion on metal surfaces or organic coating surfaces is not less than (10± 1) N / 25 mm.

Customized parts: refers to all materials other than self-made parts.

High-temperature tin: a special tin alloy electroplating layer. It's main feature is that it can be used at welding temperatures up to 260°C without melting, peeling, blistering and other phenomena of the coating metal.

Amplifier substrate: refers to the metal block used for heat dissipation.

Key welding positions of the power amplifier substrate: refers to the welding surface of the power amplifier substrate (the surface corresponding to the power tube slot or boss), the large flat surface (on the same plane, excluding grooves that are not on the same plane) and the power tube slot, or the position of the boss surface.

Power tube slotting: refers to the square slotting on the power amplifier substrate. The slotting depth accuracy requirement is generally indicated on the drawing as 0.05mm, which is the position used for welding to the power tube device.

Power tube boss: refers to the square boss on the power amplifier substrate. The boss height accuracy requirement is generally indicated on the drawing as 0.05mm, which is the position used for welding to the power tube device.

Whiskers: a type of slender tin wire that grows from tin metal grains due to stress.

Local thickness: the arithmetic mean of a specified number of thickness measurements in a specified area.

Average thickness: select ten evenly distributed points in the same plane for thickness measurement, and the arithmetic mean of the measured thickness is the average thickness.

Friction bearing surface: the surface on a structural component that is subjected to pressure or sliding friction.

Hot-dip galvanizing: it's a method of coating the metal material to be coated by immersing it in zinc metal or its alloy with a lower melting point.

Production batch: refers to the sum of parts of similar material and shape processed on the same day under the same conditions.

Silk screen: screen printing, a printing process.

Level 1 surface: important appearance surface, surface that reflects the appearance of the product, decorative surface. It's generally specified in product drawings or product appearance specifications.

Colored zinc: electroplated zinc color passivation.

Black zinc: electroplated zinc black passivation.

Blue and white zinc: that is, blue and white passivation of electroplated zinc.
